Settings as Secondary Characters
Are you into old houses either for their history (house-story) or as a renovator? For years, I’ve seen these houses around Richmond and other towns and cities in America, yet had no idea of their unique and amazing history. These are some of the resources I found while researching the setting of Kincaid’s Hope. After learning about Sears Catalogue and Honor Bilt homes, I knew Maude Henry’s home was more than a setting, it was also a character in its own right.

In Beach Rental, the setting lives within the rhythm of the waves, and the promise and reassurance of sunrise and sunset. Beach Rental takes place on Emerald Isle, North Carolina. It’s a special beach that runs east/west versus the usual north/south. It’s a view Juli never expected to see from her own front porch, and the place she never wants to leave.
